• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide to Mountains in Gainesville, GA, Georgia.
The Appalachian Mountains are a large collection of smaller ranges running along the Atlantic Coast of North America. Primarily located in the US, the Appalachians run through more than 15 states, extending as far south as Alabama and as far north as Maine in the US and Newfoundland in Canada. Named after the Apalachee Native Americans of Florida, the mountains serve as a geological barrier between North America's east coast and the plains of the midwest. They are also home to the Appalachian Trail, a popular hiking destination and the world's longest continuous mountain trail.
Located along the northeastern section of Georgia, this mountain range includes sections of the Appalachian and Blue Ridge mountain chains. The region offers a multitude of recreational opportunities and is within easy access to numerous urban centers such as Gainesville and greater Atlanta.
