Georgia Mountains at a Glance
The Georgia Mountains cover the northern portion of the state, where the Appalachian
Range extends for approximately 40 miles. Some of the most beautiful scenery
in the state can be found here, as well as some great recreational activities
including whitewater rafting. Cartersville
boasts several worthwhile attractions. The Etowah
Indian Mounds State Historical Site is of particular interest for history
buffs, and the William
Weinman Mineral Museum features a simulated mine tunnel and many geological
artifacts. Rome is
reminiscent of its Italian counterpart, and was similarly built upon seven hills.
Attractions and historical sights, such as the Oak
Hill and Martha Berry Museum, are scattered throughout the city. Another
prominent attraction in Rome is the Clock
Tower and Museum, which stands 104 feet tall and is visible from most vantages
in the city. The city of Helen features a number of attractions as well, among
them the Alpine
Amusement Park, good for a family outing in the area.
